YOUR IBS QUIZ Results:

High Likelihood of IBS

Your reported symptoms suggest a high likelihood of IBS. I recommend functional testing as your next step to identify what is causing your symptoms.

Identifying the root cause of your IBS symptoms provides a roadmap toward effective solutions that help you get relief from symptoms quickly.

MOST COMMON REASONS SOMEONE DEVELOPS IBS

Acute gastroenteritis: This could have been a result of food poisoning, traveler’s diarrhea, Giardia, Norovirus, or other gastrointestinal infection that led to gastrointestinal motility dysfunction – that’s a fancy way of saying food is no longer moving through your digestive tract at the rate it should. It’s either sped up (causing diarrhea) or slowed down (leading to constipation and many other unwanted symptoms).

Antibiotics: Antibiotics can be life-saving but are also associated with a 2.3-fold increased risk of developing IBS. They are one of the primary causes of visceral hypersensitivity (abdominal pain) and intestinal permeability (leaky gut).

COMMON OBSTACLES ON YOUR JOURNEY TO HEAL IBS:

From frustrating experiences with the healthcare system to ineffective pharmaceuticals, you may feel like healing your IBS is an uphill battle. In most cases, IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion. Your doctor or gastroenterologist may do a full workup, including a colonoscopy and endoscopy, that provides no answers, so they hand you the IBS diagnosis without further guidance.

TIPS:

  1. Don’t give up! There are functional gut and nutrient tests you likely haven’t utilized that give insight into the root cause of your IBS symptoms, providing a personalized roadmap toward effective solutions.
  2. Resist the urge to go it alone. Restoring proper physiological function in your gut requires a complete understanding of the factors that impair digestive health. The steps you may need to take include correcting nutrient deficiencies, clearing bacterial dysbiosis, and regrowing beneficial microbes in your microbiome.
